Loud Exposure to Music Players: Problematic for Europeans and Americans alike

Research in Brussels, found in the New York Times, reports that a scientific study done by the European Union warns that young people do not realize the damage of exposure to loud personal music devices. A team of nine specialists on the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks warns that these damaging effects do not appear until years later, so people are reluctant to precautionary measures now.

“Regularly listening to personal music players at high-volume settings when young,” the report said, “often has no immediate effect on hearing but is likely to result in hearing loss later in life.”
